About the Seneca Student Leadership Conference

The Seneca Student Leadership Conference (SSLC) brings together Seneca students from across all program areas to develop leadership skills and knowledge while connecting with their peers and the wider Seneca community. Each SSLC is designed around a specific theme that connects to leadership and integrates key leadership values, concepts, and practices to support student learning and leadership development.  

Through a series of interactive activities, and group discussions, students will gain knowledge, experience, and opportunities to expand their leadership and networking skills.   Click here to learn more about the benefits of attending the Leadership Conference.

Leading Through Connection
Tuesday, October 22, 2024
10 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (registration starts at 9:30 a.m.; doors open at 9:45 a.m.)

During this conference, participants will engage in various activities, and group discussions. Students will have a chance to attend workshops of their choice.

Conference Workshops

Sign-ups for individual workshops will be done through the online registration process and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Students who register for the conference will be sent sign-up information about the workshops. 

Note: workshops have a capacity limit as determined by the classroom setup. Students may not be able to attend their first choice/preference 

Workshop Title Description
Unveiling Unconscious Bias: Building Awareness and Inclusion 
  • Learn about the concept/theories of unconscious bias,
  • Learn how these biases can be managed in your learning environment or workplace,
  • Identify ways you can create a more inclusive culture. 
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work  
  • Reflect on positive team experiences you have been part of and analyze the aspects that made the team a success,  
  • Learn Tuckman's Model for teams and consider where you have experienced the model,  
  • Participate in activities that challenge your capacity to work as a team and reflect on that experience. 
Mission, Vision, and Values- Actualizing your Positive Leadership 
  • Reflect on what your personal values are and how those impact your thinking and actions, 
  • Draft a personal mission statement after learning and reflecting on mission statement of organizations you are keen to emulate.
Perseverance and Persistence 
  • List elements essential to resilience,
  • Explain mindsets & differences between them, 
  • Draft a personal affirmation.

Ethical Leadership

  • Learn strategies to lead with integrity,
  • Describe ethical decision-making,
  • Define social responsibility.

This session aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to promote ethical conduct, foster trust, and lead with integrity. 

Fundamentals of Community 
  • Cultivate skills to empower community members, foster leadership development, and encourage active participation,
  • Discover effective strategies for building and nurturing solid, positive relationships within their communities.
The Last of Us: Leadership Through Service 
  • Reflect on communities and personal commitments core to their identity 
  • Identify community groups associated with those communities 
  • Define stewardship and role-modelling as functions of leadership 
  • Create 1 long term goal for engaging in community 
What it Means to Stay Connected: The Value of Conversation  
  • Understand and utilize 10 micro-skills,
  • Identify ways to engage in meaningful conversation,
  • Recognize healthy vs. unhealthy connections and how to improve working relationships.

Travel and Commuting Updates

If you are planning to attend, please give yourself extra time to get to campus.  The Shuttle Bus is not running during Study Week.  Please visit TTC.ca or Triplinx to help plan your commute accordingly.
