What Wellness Means at Seneca

Wellness is about actively taking care of yourself and making choices that help you feel your best, both physically and mentally. It’s an ongoing journey, not a destination.

At Seneca Polytechnic, we see wellness as something that goes beyond just your physical health. It includes your mental, emotional, social, and even academic well-being. All these parts of your life work together, and when they’re in balance, it helps you thrive.

Think of wellness as a spectrum. On one end, you might need support when you're not feeling well, and that’s okay! There are services and people to help. On the other end, you’re doing things every day that help you feel good and stay healthy, like getting enough rest, managing stress, building strong relationships, and making time for things that bring you joy.

Taking care of your wellness means being proactive. It’s about making small, intentional choices that build up over time to help you feel strong, capable, and supported.

At Seneca Polytechnic, we believe that supporting your wellness is something we all do together. It’s a shared effort between students, faculty, staff, and the wider community. We’re here to make sure you have access to resources, tools, and a caring environment that helps you succeed in school and beyond.

Physical wellness encompasses maintaining healthy habits related to exercise, nutrition, hygiene, sleep, and access to healthcare, while also avoiding detrimental behaviors.

Psychological wellness is a state of mental health that allows individuals to manage life’s stresses, recognize their potential, perform well in learning and work, and make meaningful contributions to their community.

Environmental wellness is about feeling physically safe in clean and secure surroundings, with access to clean air, food, and water. It includes both our immediate environment and the broader environment.

Social wellness is about building and maintaining healthy relationships, as well as the ability to engage effectively with others in home, school, work, and community settings.

Intellectual wellness is about continuous learning, embracing new ideas, concepts, and experiences, and seeking to grow from challenges.

Occupational wellness is about utilizing one's skills and talents through engaging in meaningful and purposeful activities, including work.

Spiritual wellness is about discovering meaning in your experiences and defining your purpose, while being open to the diverse beliefs and backgrounds of others. Being spiritually grounded helps you find balance between your inner self and the external challenges you encounter.
